The eyes captures images and the mind interprets them. So it's totally possible to allegedly see something that isn't as if it were.
This occurs due to the state of the mind. You cannot assume to see something you know nothing about - That is why knowledge is both elixir and poison.
That's why the bible advises us to tame our minds by hearing the right things, seeing the right things and learning the right things.
