Why People refer to Anime Fans as Childish people

     Its sad that in this day and age we anime fans(otaku) have to correct "ignorant" people(haters) that anime isn't a cartoon even though it kinda looks like it. This is getting rather annoying and discriminating because we "anime freaks" feel sometimes or always shy to watch anime in public or with friends so as not to be referred to as a kid which is sad because we cant be ourselves.
 
   I think the main reason why people refer to anime as a cartoon or childish is due to the dumb acts being done by kids. For example, I recently went to the park with my friends to go relax and then i saw some kids yelling "kamikamiha" from the DBZ series and some yelling "rasengan" from the Naruto. Going at each other back and forth like they where characters in a show, i understand kids would kids but i think because of this reason people label anime and anime watchers as childish.

   Another reason is us"anime fans" and the way some of us dress. I understand that there are die hard fans who just want to dress up like their favorite characters but we have to understand that there is thin line between awesome and creepy. Due to this kinda dressing by some anime fans, this tends to scare people off and this people also consider it creepy and then refer to us "anime fans" as childish people.
